My name is Matt Hutchinson and I, along with several others, helped found this group. Been a fan of the game since I was a kid and eventually fell in love with United. Watching the games at home alone wasn't good enough once I discovered that there was a bar that played every game. So I would head up to Amsterdam, dragging a couple of buddies with me who were not United fans so I didn't feel as bad about drinking at 6 AM in the morning. I noticed that though there were several pockets of Untied fans here and there, there wasn't anyone I knew and there wasn't one big group I could approach.
So I eventually started looking over FB to see if there was an STL United group setup. I found one, ran by Matthew Haynes, but hadn't had much activity in a while. I started messaging Matt about trying to do some sort of reboot. So I created a brand new page and went to the Amsterdam FB page and started messaging and adding anyone who was a friend of the Dam and had United in their profile picture. In turn, they started adding people and it just started to grow. The goal was to connect people online who lived here in town and were United fans so that when they showed up at the bar they had a group to sit or stand with and build a community of STL Reds. There were and continue to be no real big ambitions of creating a super formal group the likes of AOSTL or Louligans (of which I am a member of both). Matt and I just wanted to have a way for local Reds to talk about the club with and get together at the tavern to watch games. It's taken off with over 100 people in this group page. Some of us make every weekend at the Dam. Others, the best we can from time to time. We don't charge money to be a member and never will (unlike the local Liverpool group - another form of Scouse theft). We are not affiliated with any national US supporters group (though if you want to join the United USA group, I encourage you to do so). We're informal and laid back - as it ought to be. I've met some amazing people in this group and have made some great friends. If you are going to head out to the Dam and haven't made a point to say hi to one of us or are planning on going for the first time this year, make a point to say hi. Join in. I'd love to buy you a beer and I know others would do the same. Sorry for a long post. I just wanted to share what we're about and say I hope to see many of you this season. Any and all ideas are welcome on where we want to take this group so long as having fun, uniting us more and building community are the goals. GGMU and Cheers
